Smart Buys for your Holiday Wardrobe

Space and weight is pretty precious when you’re going away, so we know how important it is to pick stuff that’s really easy to wear so you can shove it on and get exploring! (Or chilling out in the shade with a massive margarita – whatever floats your boat).

We’ve picked a couple of our favourite items – for guys and girls – that’ll help you look and feel amazing no matter how you choose to style it….

The Funky Fringed Tunic £32.95

As modeled by the gorgeous Melissa above, it looks great with a pair of white jeans, statement necklace and a pair of heels for an exotic summer evening…

Team with a pair of funky embroidered shorts, comfy flip flops and a casual shoulder bag and you’re ready for whatever the day can throw at you.

If you’re off somewhere a bit cooler or out exploring our gorgeous English countryside, the funky fringed tunic is awesome for layering up and adding a bit of personality to your casual look.

The Bikes to Boards Shirt £29.95

As modeled by our main man Adam above (who’s either spotted a bar in the distance or a fitty that’s caught his attention) the Bikes to Boards Shirt is a great all-rounder. It’s a suitcase fail safe and looks great for a casual outfit with these Azores shorts, flip flops and cool sunnys.

Smarten it up a notch with a classic pair of Slim Joe Jeans, Chelsea Boots and leather belt and your ready for hitting the bars to sample the local beers.

Or to funk up your style a bit more we’d wear it with a pair of laid back ripped jeans, quality leather flip flops and a stylish summer scarf – perfect for a bit of daytime holiday exploring.

Where’s your next adventure going to be?

Wizards and Wonderful Wardrobes

You really can’t beat the feeling when a complete stranger stops you to tell you they love what you’re wearing. It’s going to make you feel great for the rest of the day.

So team that with a fun trip with the family and you’ve got a recipe for a great weekend. Our merchandiser Abi told us all about hers…

So last weekend I went down to London as a late Christmas/birthday trip! The first night I went with my lovely fiancé Ash to NY Fold (best pizza place I’ve ever been to) and then to see Aladdin at the Prince Edward theatre!

It was completely amazing and I totally recommend you see it! As it was the theatre I love getting a bit dressed up, but with the surprisingly warm weather we had I made sure it was something that would also keep me cool!

I decided to wear our brand new Cute Cold Shoulder Top with the best pencil skirt I own the Office To Bar skirt and my beautiful blue Rock Star Biker Leather Jacket. For me this was the perfect combination of smart and casual. I was kept nice and warm with the jacket, but not too hot as the top is so light! Plus I have had so many complements on this jacket, everyone loves how bright and different it is!

Since I was going for a smart/cas look I made sure Ash followed suit with his Check Suit Blazer and Waistcoat and his straight Joe Jeans.

The second day we met up with my two brothers and nephew to go to the Harry Potter Studios Tour.  It’s the second time I’ve been but there was the brand new Forbidden Forest part which had just opened the day before (talk about timing or what! Purely accidentally when booking the tickets!).

Due to having been before I knew how long we would be (we were there for 4 hours last time) I thought I better make sure I am comfy so I chose my new favourite tunic – Vintage Floral Tunic, (before I started at Joe Browns I didn’t understand how amazing tunics are!) and I paired this with some basic black leggings. I was super comfy and cool throughout the day despite how much walking we did and some running after an 8 year old!

Coincidently whilst waiting in the queue to go on the tour I happened to be behind a lady wearing one of our hoodies so I had to tell her how much I loved it!

So it was an amazing weekend with some great outfits (if I do say so myself!) and I can wait to go back down to London again!

A Grown up Easter

We’re rebelling – Shock. Just because we have to go to work, pay bills and clean stuff, doesn’t mean we can’t have just as much fun (if not more) as the kids at Easter.

Here are some ‘adult’ Easter egg hunt ideas to get the grown-ups bouncing …

A Beer hunt (or mini spirit bottles)

Have fun painting beer cans or pop mini spirit bottles into plastic eggs.

beer hunt

Confetti Egg Game

You basically use real hollowed out eggs and fill one of them with loads of glittery confetti. Every time someone finds an egg it has to be smashed over their head. The one covered in confetti wins a prize.

confetti-eggs-4 (1)

Night Hunt

Practically the same as a normal hunt, but put glow-sticks into plastic eggs and find them in the dark!

gow eggs

‘Scrabbled’ Eggs

Have two teams and paint letters on all the eggs. The team that makes the most/ best words out of their letters wins.

A Day at the races!

When at the races, looking and feeling good is something that is important to all of us. With the racing season already in full flow, here are a few of our favourite outfits. Why not try one of them at Aintree for the Grand National next week?

Guys

Ascot’s finest

A matching suit is one of the most popular styles at the races. Our men’s full grey check suit is the perfect way to stand out from the crowd while at Ascot. The suit is both lightweight and stylish, meaning you can keep cool while enjoying the vibrant atmosphere. Match the suit with the Double Trouble lilac shirt to complete the look.

Charming Check Suit Blazer- £94.95
Charming Check Suit Trousers- £49.95
Charming Check Suit Waistcoat- £44.95
Lilac Double Trouble Shirt- £29.95

One for the perfectionist

If the grey suit is too out there for you, our dark blue check suit is a subtler option. The checks are only noticeable from close up, yet the splash of colour on the lining and the buttons adds a uniqueness. The purple show off shirt is the perfect addition. The dark purple of the cuffs adds a lovely contrast to both the lighter purple of the shirt and the navy of the suit. The delicate feather pin tops the suit off with the edge that removes you from the crowd.

Check Suit Blazer- £94.95
Check Suit Trousers- £49.95
Check Suit Waistcoat- £44.95
Delectible Stripe Shirt – £29.95
Feather pin- £3.95

Loud and proud

The bold stripes and pocket square detail of our new Dapper Blazer means it’s the perfect match for a pair of dark jeans and a white shirt. Combine this outfit with some subtle accessories, such as the Club sunglasses or stag pin, to ensure flowing compliments of your style. There is still time to get this blazer, and full outfit, before the Grand National on Saturday!

Dapper Blazer- £89.95
Straight Joe Jeans- £39.95
Double Collar Shirt- £29.95
Club Sunglasses- £9.95
Stag Pin- £3.95

Smart Casual

Dressing to impress isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. If you’re wanting something more laid back, then this is the outfit for you. Despite having a very similar name to the above blazer, the dapper gent blazer is very different. From afar it is a simple jacket, but there is a fine detail to when close up with a contrasting collar to add something different. The plain colour is a great way to enhance the pink subtle spot shirt. Wearing the distressed leather boots with some dark jeans (see above) tops off an easy look that will fit any racing occasion.

Dapper Gent Blazer- £99.95
Subtle Spot Shirt- £32.95
Distressed Leather Boots- £59.95
Straight Joe Jeans- £39.95

Women

Summer days

This is the perfect outfit for Ladies day, with a flattering neckline and classy mid-length that will take you to any course. The vibrant floral print is perfect for a sunny day on the terraces sipping prosecco, while letting your outfit do the talking. Whether the sun is shining or not, the new 1950s sunglasses will enhance any outfit, match this dress up with the pinked rimmed version to ring out the print of the dress. Complete the retro theme with these eye catching art deco heels, making you really stand out from the crowd.

Summer Days dress- £39.95
Art Deco Occasion Shoes- £39.95
1950s sunglasses- £9.95

Daisy

The all new ditsy daisy jumpsuit is a great way to stay comfortable while still looking your best at the races. This classic all in one really oozes elegance. Pair with the Island Secrets necklace and bracelet to set a relaxed yet glamorous vibe which will be the envy of other racegoers. If the weather looks slightly chilly, throw on the black popcorn shrug as a great finishing touch, an essential piece in the unpredictable British weather!

Ditsy Daisy Jumpsuit- £49.95
Black Popcorn shrug- £19.95
Island Secrets Necklace- £17.95
Island Secrets Bracelet- £12.95

Fancy Florals

Wearing the floral culotte trousers is a sure way to turn some heads. The bold blue base colour and detailed floral design are ideal for days when a dress isn’t for you. The loose cut of the trouser and cropped length make for a summery, yet stylish look. This also means your feet must also look the part, so opt for the classy summer breeze sandals. Keep the trousers the focus of attention so pair with one of simple white camisole tops. Top the look off with our summer day’s hat.

Floral Culotte Trousers- £34.95
Versatile White Camisole- £9.95
Summer Breeze Sandals- £24.95
Summer Days hat- £14.95

Suit-Up

Looking for something a little different? Don’t want to wear a dress? We have just the answer! Our new boating stripe blazer makes a powerful statement. Similar to the men’s dapper blazer, the vivacious colours and stripes of the jacket will be sure to catch many eyes, while being a more suitable choice when the weather isn’t so warm. This blazer is one for a woman of class. Match with one of our great fitting pairs of white jeans and the when in Rome sandals to keep the summer vibe.

Boating Stripe Jacket- £54.95
Must Have White jeans- £29.95
When in Rome sandals- £49.95

Joe's Bake Off

Browns Bake Off!

We know we can create distinctive and remarkable clothes, but can we create distinctive and remarkable bakes??

In the name of charity we gave it a go! Here’s how we got on…

Not too shabby looking hey?!

Our new chairman, Dereck (on the far right) sampled all 13 anonymous bakes judging on looks, but more importantly taste!

And the winner was… drum roll please… our head of quality control – Linda!

Her Malteezer crunchy chocolately square thingies were out of this world!

Then, like the vultures we are, we all piled in…

We promise we’re not all now slumped in the office with cake sweats (is that even a thing?) we’re creating more beautiful clothes for you – honest!

We raised just over 90 quid for our efforts which we’ll be sending off to the #RedNoseDay guys to help with the amazing work they do.  Have you been fundraising?

St Patricks at Joe Browns

Paddy Browns!

As you’ll know, today is St Patrick’s Day and the craic is mighty in the Joe Brown’s office, especially over in the merchandising department where James McDonnell, our Irish merchandiser is feeling very at home today!

With Irish stew, decorations and some sham-rock n’ roll tunes, the only thing missing is some Guinness… However, nobody’s questioned what’s in his Jameson’s cup!

So, a very happy St Patrick’s Day to all those celebrating it today and nursing their hangovers tomorrow morning!

Alternative ways to treat your mum this Mother’s Day

Want to do something a bit cooler than normal for your mum this year?

Or are you the mum and want to leave this page open on your browser for one of your little darlings to find and think they’ve come up with it all by themselves? (just remember to scroll down past this sentence)…

For the Boho Mum

Stay: Hire a VW camper van and go and explore some awesome countryside.

Do: Wrap mum up nice and warm and go for a long walk.

Eat: Take a picnic – or if a mate’s got one of those portable stoves, even better, let her sit back on a deck chair and you do the cooking.

For the Classy Mum

Stay: Find a cute little B’n’B just for the two of you bursting with English charm

Do: Book yourselves into a spa, but instead of the regular massage she’ll be expecting, why not try something different like cupping, a seaweed bath or chocolate facial?

Eat: Why not try an afternoon tea with a difference – like one that’s on a moving bus! (This one’s in central London)

For the Funky Mum

Stay: Some mums might not fancy full-on camping, but glamping in a tree house – hello!

Do: Why not keep costs down and take your bikes for a bit of exercise and adventure.

Eat: If you and your mum enjoy cooking, why not do a cookery course together for some quality bonding time over good food.

For the Rocky Mum

Stay: If cash is a bit tight, why not kick everyone else out the house so you two can have some time together by yourselves? Maybe just run the duster round first so it looks like you’ve made an effort. A bit of Mr Sheen won’t break the bank.

Do: When was the last time you went to a gig with your mum? Have a rummage through her CD (or tape!) collection and see who she loves. Even if they’re not your thing – they might end up being and she’ll love you for it!

Eat: Make a cake! Yeah it’s not her birthday, but why not!

A designer in the making…

One of the things we love most about working at Joe Browns (apart from it being the coolest place in the world obviously) is getting to chat to you guys on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram every day.

You’re such a fun, interesting and often inspirational bunch, we feel we’ve got to know you over the years and as cheesy as it sounds we’re often laughing with you and learning from you.

But you’re always still surprising us and this time it was 7-year-old Leah’s turn.

Her proud mum Emma shared her drawings with us on Facebook…

And then Leah took us through her designs…

So Leah we asked our head designer, George, what she thought of your work and here’s what she said…

“These are really fantastic Leah! You’ve clearly spent a lot of time thinking through your designs carefully. I particularly like your use of colour – it’s very vibrant which Joe Browns customers love and your flower patterns would look great as embroidery to give that bit of extra detailing.

Keep up the hard work and take inspiration from everywhere you go and everyone you meet.  I think you have the potential to be a real star!”

We hope you put into practice George’s advise Leah and keep designing. Thank you for sharing and watch this space design world – Leah’s hot on your heals.
