Joe's-Favourite-Tipple

Joe’s favourite summer tipple

Fancy  being transported to the sun soaked piazzas of Venice?

There’s only one drink for it – an Aperol Spritz!

spritz

  • 3 parts prosecco
  • 2 parts Aperol*
  • 1 part soda water
  • Slice of orange

*It used to be pretty hard to get hold of an bottle of Aperol, but now everyone’s caught on to how awesome this drink is, you can pick one up from more or less any supermarket now.

Just pour it all in a big wine glass over ice and add a wedge of orange to garnish (and a green olive if you want to be really authentic).

Sharp, tangy and refreshing – there’s not a lot you can compare the taste to and in our book, nothing quite as magnificent. Enjoy!

Christmas Sangria

Is chocolate just for Easter? Cake just for Birthdays? Hell no, so why should we just have Sangria in the summer?

We say crack on!

sangria

  • 250g fresh cherries, pitted
  • 500g fresh strawberries, sliced

  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/3 cup orange-flavoured liqueur
  • 750ml bottle shiraz rose, chilled

  • Ice-cubes, to serve

(This will serve about 8 people – or 4 if you like your glasses as big as ours)

  1. Step 1

Slice each apple crossways into 3mm thick slices. using a 4cm star-shaped cutter (or going freestyle) cut stars out of the apple.

  1. Step 2

Put your apple stars, cherries, strawberries, orange rind and cinnamon in a large serving jug. Add liqueur, rose and lemonade. Stir to combine. Cover. Refrigerate for 2 hours.

  1. Step 3

Add ice-cubes and stir well just before serving.

Ben's Home Pub

Joe’s crew do Christmas

Nothing says Christmas like a group of mates getting together for a drink and a laugh. The only way this could possibly be made better is if you had your very own pub…well we don’t have a pub, but we have a Ben and he has a pub!

117-comp
Ben, who does an awesome job of making our website, emails and social stuff look so cool, built this little gem that sits in his garden from scratch. He’s got it fully stocked with all the good stuff, working beer pumps and even a mini log burner!

147-crop

So he very kindly invited the Joe Browns gang over to help decorate it and try out a few festive cocktails!

First on the menu was the White Christmas Cocktail…

It’s really easy, you just put a few ice cubes in a cocktail shaker with vanilla vodka, coconut cream, crème de cacao and grated nutmeg. Shake it up and strain it into jam jars – we even found some chocolate straws lying around which were a great touch (until we realised they were out of date).

232-comp

Here’s the breakdown of measurements to make two:

  • 100ml vanilla vodka
  • 160ml coconut cream
  • 1 tbsp crème de cacao
  • ½ tsp grated nutmeg
  • 2 chocolate wafers, to serve

Next up, we gave some Winter Whisky Sours a go…

246-comp

Ideally you’d fill some glasses with crushed ice (we didn’t have any), put bourbon, lemon juice, orange juice and sugar syrup into a cocktail shaker, shake it up and strain it into glasses. Check us out trying to pro with a chunk of orange.

Here’s your measurements for two:

  • 50ml bourbon
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp fresh orange juice
  • ½ tbsp sugar syrup
  • 2 slices of orange

If you’re feeling fancy you can stick edible gold glitter round the rim with honey. We weren’t.

Ben’s little dog Ace then came to join the party. He did enjoy himself – really.

Daiquiri’s with a Difference

What do pineapple upside down cakes, cucumbers and watermelons all have in common?

They all make damn good daiquiris, that’s what. Take a look for yourself…

PINEAPPLE UPSIDE DOWN CAKE DAIQUIRI

Pineapple-upside-down-cake-daiquiri

What you need
(This makes just one for you)

  • 1 cup freshly frozen pineapple chunks
  • 2 large fresh strawberries
  • 2 splashes naturally sweetened pineapple-coconut or coconut sparkling water
  • 2 handfuls crushed ice cubes
  • 1 oz whipped cream vodka (this is basically just a smoother, sweeter vodka – Smirnoff do a version)
  • ½ oz pineapple rum

Get muddling

  1. Muddle (or mash) the strawberries and spoon into the bottom of a glass.
  2. Add the remainder of the ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth.
  3. Carefully pour the pineapple mixture over the strawberries.
  4. Enjoy!

SAVORY CUCUMBER AND GREEN CHARTEUSE DAIQUIRI

 cucumber-daiquiri

  • 1 1/2 ounces Green Chartreuse
  • 2 cucumbers, cut into 1/2-inch rounds
  • 4 cups ice cubes
  • 4 cucumber spears and lime zest for garnish

Get muddling

  1. At least 1 day before you’d like to serve the cocktail, combine rum, lime juice and Green Chartreuse in an airtight container. Store in the freezer for at least 8 hours.
  1. Pour pre-chilled base into blender with cucumber rounds and ice. Blend until even in texture. Pour into serving glasses, garnish each drink with a cucumber spear and lime zest, and serve.

A Sophisticated Tipple

We love looking to the Far East for inspiration for both oriental designs and the odd beverage!

The Oriental Cocktail is a classic.

Unfortunately none of its ingredients actually hail from that side of the globe, but it was probably quite exotic at the time and reminded someone of their travels there.

It’s really quick to do, refreshingly different and surprisingly tasty…

INGREDIENTS

1 1/2 ounces Rye Whisky
3/4 ounce sweet vermouth
3/4 ounce Cointreau
1/2 ounce lime juice
Cherry garnish
From getting in the front door to having it in your hand: 3 minutes
Enough for: Just you – double up for a mate

PREPARATION

Add all ingredients in a mixing glass or cocktail shaker.
Add ice and shake vigorously.
Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
Garnish with a cherry.
For one last January bargain the Oriental Wrap Jersey Dress is currently in the sale at just £29.95.

Have you got any oriental inspired favourites?
