Five Christmas Games you HAVE to try!

In all the Christmas mahem it’s easy to forget to plan stuff to do to keep all the family entertained (especially when it’s day 4 and Uncle Geoff’s outstayed his welcome and the kids are beginning to get a bit annoying.)

So we’ve come up with a few alternative games, for when the sixth game of Monopoly is just one too many…

Candy Canes

Remember the good old days when Bowie was rocking and Bob Dylan was rolling? Well, if so you’ll have tried part of this game before. Take a Candy cane, perch it on your nose and see who can hold it the longest!

Christmas A-Z

Note the alphabet from A to Z down a sheet of paper. Ask everyone to fill in each letter with a Christmas themed word! Quickest to finish wins! Simple, but cheap and effective.

(You could maybe do with having a judge in case dad tries to cheat.)

Guess the Gift

Tell all your guests to bring a gift they would like to receive. Ideally keep the cost under a tenner. When everyone’s there, place the presents into a bag, mix them up and open them one by one. Now, let everyone guess who brought which gift.

Dunk the Bells

Don’t be surprised if this energetic holiday game vaguely reminds you of your teenage years. To play Jingle Bell Toss, you simply throw tiny jingle bells (or sweets) into your opponent’s plastic cups. You could even decorate the cups with marker pens and cotton wool to make your own mini Santa cups!

If you’re all adults, why not add a splash of eggnog…to add to the entertainment if nothing else.

Get Three in a Row

Those old wine corks can get the Frozen makeover for this wintry version of three in a row. The secret Frozen fan in all of us can enjoy this guilty pleasure!

(Also known as the inverted triangle, aka you have a broader chest, wide shoulders and a narrow waist and hips.) What you guys want to do is accentuate your lower body while softening your upper body. One great way of doing this is with a 2-piece. Joe’s Favourite Skirt has a great full shape and the box pleats are really flattering.  Teamed with the square shape of Joe’s Favourite Top it balances you out perfectly.

This is if your waist and hips are similar in proportion and set off by a tiny waist. If this is you you want to accentuate your beautiful curves, so go for tight fitting lightweight styles. We think you’ll look great in our Sensual Lace Dress. The sheer mesh sleeves keep you covered up, with with a sexy slinky edge.

If your waist, shoulders and hips are all a similar width than you’re going to want to show off your great arms and legs while creating some curves. Skater style dresses will do this for you, so we recommend the Love Life Check Skater Dress which is full of winter charm and lots of fun!

If most of your weight is above your hips, you want to elongate your torso and show off your amazing legs. Empire styles are great for this and also anything that has a belt to show off the smallest part of your waist. The Luxury Longline Blouse is not only stunning, but it also does all these things for you. It’s got a waist belt to sinch you in at your smallest part and the gorgeous georgette fabric drapes perfectly over your middle.

If you’re a pear shape (meaning your lower body is wider than your upper body) you should be looking to create points of interest on your top half to balance out your bottom half. We recommend the Ultimate Knot Dress. The hem is in-line with your hips to keep them balanced and as well as the detail along the hem, your eyes are drawn to the detailing around the bust. The beautiful knits and jersey fabrics are really flattering.

Joe’s Ultimate Bonfire Party

Bonfire night is one of our favourite nights of the year because, for some reason, people seem to loose their inhibitions. They chat with anyone and become a kid again for the night – hence we love it.

bonfire-party

So if you’re going to host a party, do it for bonfire night, as it’ll be as easy as hell.

Here’s our fail-safe method:

To Eat

Hot diggedy dogs

Really easy, hearty and yummy.

recipe-image-legacy-id-614_12

Ingredients

2 tbsp sunflower oil
6 large pork sausages
1 large onion, sliced
1 tsp yellow mustard seeds
6 big flour tortillas
2 tbsp tomato relish
paper napkins, to serve

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to fan 180C/ conventional 200C/gas 6. Pour the oil into the tin and put it in the oven for a couple of minutes to heat up. Add the sausages to the hot tin and roast for 10 minutes.
  2. Push the sausages to the outer edges of the tin and scatter the sliced onion in the middle. Sprinkle the onion slices with the mustard seeds and some salt and pepper and turn them to coat in the hot oil at the bottom of the tin. Stick them back in the oven for 10-15 minutes until the sliced onions are golden and the sausages are completely cooked through.
  3. Briefly heat the flour tortillas in the oven, microwave or in a dry frying pan to make them softer and easier to roll. Place a sausage and some onion on each one, top with a spoonful of relish and roll, folding the bottom over. Serve straight away, wrapped in paper napkins.

To Drink

Mulled Wine

You can’t go wrong.

gal_wine-jpg-638x0_q80_crop-smart

Ingredients
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
10 whole cloves
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3 peppercorns, whole
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (to taste)
1 orange, juiced
1 bottle red wine
Cinnamon sticks (optional)

Directions

1. Combine all ingredients except wine in a pan and boil for five minutes.
2. Reduce heat, add wine. Heat to the point where it is just before boiling. (Try to avoid boiling; the alcohol will begin to evaporate.)
3. Strain into cups and serve hot.
4. Garnish with cinnamon sticks, if desired. Serves four.

Perfect Look For You

The perfect look for YOU on Christmas Day

Christmas time can be a minefield of presents, food, relatives, games and well, general craziness really. So we thought we’d try and take away at least one stress for you – what to wear on the big day.

No matter what your Christmas traditions, it feels good to pick a stand-out outfit that’s that little bit festive, but more importantly – completely you.

Here’s some of our suggested styles (for guys and girls!):

This Sexy Velour Dress (34.95)  has all the perfect colours for Christmas and this Remarkable Heart Necklace (£19.95) adds just the right amount of bling.

Or if the perfect Christmas Day for you is dossing around in your pyjamas all day, this 3 Piece PJ Set (£34.95) with a cute fluffy polar bear on the front is ideal.

And for a funky alternative for the guys – Rock Pyjamas (£29.95)!

Partywear with blogger Kristina

What better way to showcase to you our new gorgeous partywear range than with the fun and beautiful writer of Mode of Style – Kristina.

We met Kristina at the awesome Adelphi pub in Leeds, which provided the perfect backdrop with its period décor of wood panels and old tiles and the coolest bar man ever – cheers Gav!

We basically got Kristina to pick out some of her favourite dresses, try them on, have a drink with us and create a bit of mischief turning heads in the pub while telling us what she thought of all the shoes, dresses and bags.

And turn heads she sure did…
