Wizards and Wonderful Wardrobes

You really can’t beat the feeling when a complete stranger stops you to tell you they love what you’re wearing. It’s going to make you feel great for the rest of the day.

So team that with a fun trip with the family and you’ve got a recipe for a great weekend. Our merchandiser Abi told us all about hers…

So last weekend I went down to London as a late Christmas/birthday trip! The first night I went with my lovely fiancé Ash to NY Fold (best pizza place I’ve ever been to) and then to see Aladdin at the Prince Edward theatre!

It was completely amazing and I totally recommend you see it! As it was the theatre I love getting a bit dressed up, but with the surprisingly warm weather we had I made sure it was something that would also keep me cool!

I decided to wear our brand new Cute Cold Shoulder Top with the best pencil skirt I own the Office To Bar skirt and my beautiful blue Rock Star Biker Leather Jacket. For me this was the perfect combination of smart and casual. I was kept nice and warm with the jacket, but not too hot as the top is so light! Plus I have had so many complements on this jacket, everyone loves how bright and different it is!

Since I was going for a smart/cas look I made sure Ash followed suit with his Check Suit Blazer and Waistcoat and his straight Joe Jeans.

The second day we met up with my two brothers and nephew to go to the Harry Potter Studios Tour.  It’s the second time I’ve been but there was the brand new Forbidden Forest part which had just opened the day before (talk about timing or what! Purely accidentally when booking the tickets!).

Due to having been before I knew how long we would be (we were there for 4 hours last time) I thought I better make sure I am comfy so I chose my new favourite tunic – Vintage Floral Tunic, (before I started at Joe Browns I didn’t understand how amazing tunics are!) and I paired this with some basic black leggings. I was super comfy and cool throughout the day despite how much walking we did and some running after an 8 year old!

Coincidently whilst waiting in the queue to go on the tour I happened to be behind a lady wearing one of our hoodies so I had to tell her how much I loved it!

So it was an amazing weekend with some great outfits (if I do say so myself!) and I can wait to go back down to London again!

Our Valentine’s outfits

Some of us are married, some engaged and some very single – but we’ve all got one thing in common, we like to feel comfy, confident and completely ourselves when we’re out and about.

So this is what we picked out for that all important date night…

Queen of Offline Marketing Loz

Effortlessly Elegant Dress £44.95

Why I’ve just got to have it

This little number is elegant and sophisticated and teamed with that whimsical, boho edge it’s perfect for summer. You can wear it with a fedora and boots for that laid-back festival look or pair it with wedges and a brown clutch for a more dressed up feel.

Where I’d wear it
On a romantic holiday (if I can persuade the boyfriend to treat me!) It’s perfect for exploring little towns or villages, it’s both cool and comfy. Or for a festival, depending on how I accessorize it – there’s plenty of movement for dancing the night away together and the intricate detailing on the skirt and corset tie makes it stand out from the crowd.

Web Whiz Gids

The jeans are super comfy, the sophisticated boots come in two parts – so you can wear them two ways (as there’s a cool detachable upper) and the jacket is just, well gorgeous!

Where I’d wear it

This outfit is great for all sorts of occasions. I can wear it to brighten up the day at work and then I don’t need to get changed  for a nice meal out with the hubby afterwards as it’s pretty smart.

Creative Genius Ben

Aged To Perfection Check Shirt £34.95
Joe’s Leather Belt £27.95
Slim Joe Jeans £44.95
Easy Joe Chelsea Boots £59.95

The check shirt is a wardrobe staple, versatile and wearable with almost any outfit. The aged look of this shirt gives it a real vintage vibe.

Whilst the Jeans have a nice slim fit, drawing attention to the shirt and shoes.

Top these off with the contrasting Chelsea boots and this amazing leather jacket and you’re ready to go.

Where I’d wear it

It’s basically a bullet proof outfit, casual enough for everyday but smart enough for after work drinks.

Head into the city for some late afternoon drinks, then have a nice meal by the river with the wife. Maybe even jump on the bike and head over to the coast for the day (weather permitting).

Or a relaxing walk with the dog around the park with a stop in the local pub.

Five Christmas Games you HAVE to try!

In all the Christmas mahem it’s easy to forget to plan stuff to do to keep all the family entertained (especially when it’s day 4 and Uncle Geoff’s outstayed his welcome and the kids are beginning to get a bit annoying.)

So we’ve come up with a few alternative games, for when the sixth game of Monopoly is just one too many…

Candy Canes

Remember the good old days when Bowie was rocking and Bob Dylan was rolling? Well, if so you’ll have tried part of this game before. Take a Candy cane, perch it on your nose and see who can hold it the longest!

Christmas A-Z

Note the alphabet from A to Z down a sheet of paper. Ask everyone to fill in each letter with a Christmas themed word! Quickest to finish wins! Simple, but cheap and effective.

(You could maybe do with having a judge in case dad tries to cheat.)

Guess the Gift

Tell all your guests to bring a gift they would like to receive. Ideally keep the cost under a tenner. When everyone’s there, place the presents into a bag, mix them up and open them one by one. Now, let everyone guess who brought which gift.

Dunk the Bells

Don’t be surprised if this energetic holiday game vaguely reminds you of your teenage years. To play Jingle Bell Toss, you simply throw tiny jingle bells (or sweets) into your opponent’s plastic cups. You could even decorate the cups with marker pens and cotton wool to make your own mini Santa cups!

If you’re all adults, why not add a splash of eggnog…to add to the entertainment if nothing else.

Get Three in a Row

Those old wine corks can get the Frozen makeover for this wintry version of three in a row. The secret Frozen fan in all of us can enjoy this guilty pleasure!

coat for all occasions

The Coat that will do for any occasion

Finding a coat that’ll do for any occasion can be a right mission. Especially if you’re going away and you don’t know what the weather’s going to be like and you don’t really want to take more than one coat.

So you need one that’s not going to look to formal over the top of jeans and a tee during the day, but that can also look dapper enough over a smart outfit (or even a suit) in the evening.

So introducing…. the Individuals Coat £89.95.

ja244a_model_front  ja244a

It’s classic and simple, but easy-wearing so you can wack it over any outfit for a bit of effortless style.

With shoulder panels and patch pockets, it’s also got something special about it – you wouldn’t expect anything less from us really would you?

So what do you think? Does the Individuals Coat make it into your suitcase?

ways to wear a waistcoat

Ways to wear a waistcoat

You might have noticed we can’t get enough of fun and funky waistcoats here at Joe Browns!

But knowing how to wear it, dress it up or down and give it your own distinctive twist can be a bit tricky, so we nabbed our head buyer Caroline, to give us a few pointers…

For the ladies:

She said: “Waistcoats are so versatile, you can easily style them for a smart or casual look. They’re great for adding an extra layer of warmth without being too bulky, as well as making a fun yet sophisticated impact to your outfit.

Heritage Herringbone Waistcoat

“My favourite from the new collection is the One Of a Kind Waistcoat because I love the stunning checked fabric teamed with funky buttons and a lace up back. It’s a really bold and bright look perfect for brightening up the cold dark nights to come!

“For a casual look you could pair it with an Understated Tie Neck Blouse with a lovely peter pan collar and ribbon tie – ideal for a trip to the shops or an impromptu coffee with friends.

“For a slightly smarter look, maybe for the office or evening drinks, it looks great with a crisp white shirt – like the Ruffle Blouse.

Or if you want to go even smarter for a special occasion and want a real wow factor, it looks amazing with a contrasting textured jacket. I think Our Favourite Jacket sets it off perfectly.”

Here’s a few more pics from our last shoot at the North York Moors Railway Station that’ll hopefully inspire you to rock a waistcoat this season… (click on the pic to be taken to the waistcoat).

For the guys:

This little beauty – the Charismatic Waistcoat – makes for the ultimate staple. In a quality wool mix with simple styling, it’s a great addition to pretty much any outfit.

Want to keep it cas for daytime drinks with the boys, but fancy a funky twist that they’ll all envy? Wack it over the top of a graphic tee like this Wild Night T-Shirt for a laid back look.

Go just that little bit further than a plain white shirt for a cool dapper style. The Tripple It Shirt has a few signature Joe Browns details, from the tripple collar to double contrast buttons and is spot on for date night or an evening out on the town.

For a complete distinguished gent style add on this awesome contrasting Charismatic Blazer. A great check is given a funky twist with mix and match cuff buttons creating a distinctive look. It comes complete with a pull out chest pocket lining that doubles as a pocket square – The ideal statement for special occasions.

Or what do you make of these looks?
