How We Designed Our Winter Dresses

When designing our winter dresses, we always aim to wow the crowd, but this year we've gone above and beyond to create some of our most dazzling pieces yet. Crafted from luxurious fabrics and decorated with sequins and embroidery for that extra Joe Browns sparkle, this season's party gowns have some remarkable stories to tell.

So we sat down with our wonderfully talented designers to give you a glimpse behind the scenes of our winter collection. From the inspiration behind the styles to our favourite party looks, here's how we designed our winter dresses!

Sparkles and sequins are staples of winter styling but, in true Joe Browns fashion, we've done them differently.

Our Deco Nights dresses took a lot of inspiration from old-school art deco: the vivid colours, geometric patterns, sunbursts, and sweeping curves. Teal fabrics are embellished with gold and silver embroidery to create that glamorous feel, whilst mirror sequins give the designs a groovy, party-ready vibe.

The Lyla Sequin Party Dress embodies this lavish vintage style. This sparkling mini dress is adorned with all the brilliant art deco shades and patterned with gorgeous golden chevrons. 

Lean into those vintage vibes with gold jewellery, sleek black heels, and a long winter coat.

Our designers say you absolutely can! And they've created a whole range of bohemian winter dresses to take you through the season.

This collection puts a completely new take on our traditional winter dresses. Named 'Golden Sundance' for their shimmering jewel tones, these dresses combine plush velvet with flowing maxi skirts and tassels.

It might seem like velvet and velour are everywhere you turn at this time of year, we've given it our own unique touches, so that you'll always steal the spotlight.

Our dresses feature the most beautiful embroidered designs, from multi-coloured florals to swirling paisley motifs. Embroidered velvet is a style you don't often see, which makes these dresses perfect for a statement winter style.

Just like you, we love to experiment with colours. This season, we've taken our velvet to a new level with a whole range of shades that we've never tried before. from dusty pinks to midnight blue.

When it comes to seasonal styling, colour is everything. So we asked our designers to take us through the palettes of our winter dresses.

For our Golden Sundance styles, we wanted to capture the magic of winter sunsets and the dancing flames of a bonfire. We designed these dresses in rich, warm tones: burnt oranges, twilight purples, and blazing reds. These colours have all that cosy, glowing warmth of winter, whilst keeping the free-spirited boho energy alive. 

For Deco Nights, we dove into the opulent world of 1920s glamour. We used saturated colours like teals, gleaming golds, and silvers to create that sophisticated tone of art deco design. This kind of palette feels equally at home at a New Year's Party or a vintage jazz bar.

When we asked our designers to pick a favourite winter dress, the 'Gold Boho Maxi Dress' was the one they loved the most. That eye-catching gold is a new colourway for us. Not only is it utterly luxurious against the velvet fabric, but it's perfect for standing out at any winter soiree.

But what makes this dress special is that it reimagines boho styles for winter. We've swapped the usual lightweight, flowy fabrics for decadent velvet, and combined traditional bohemian elements with hints of vintage styling.
