How to Care for Suede Shoes

Suede shoes are a stylish addition to any wardrobe, but they do require special care to maintain their appearance. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to care for your suede shoes:

Before you begin, gather the necessary supplies:

  • A soft-bristle brush or suede brush
  • A suede eraser or pencil eraser
  • White vinegar (for tough stains)
  • A clean, dry cloth

Brush Away Surface Dirt: Start by using a soft-bristle brush or suede brush to gently remove any loose dirt or debris from the surface of the shoes. Brush in one direction to avoid damaging the nap (the raised, fuzzy surface of the suede).

Handle Tough Stains with Vinegar: For more stubborn stains, dip a clean cloth in white vinegar and gently blot the stained area. Do not rub, as this may cause the stain to spread. Allow the vinegar to air dry.

Restore Fabric: After cleaning, use the suede brush to restore the fabric by smoothing over the surface area of the shoe so that the colour of the suede is uniform. Brush in one direction to lift the fibres and give the suede a fresh, clean appearance.

Use Water Repellent Spray: Prevent future stains and water damage by applying a suede protector or water-repellent spray. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for best results. Remember to reapply the spray periodically, especially if you wear your suede shoes frequently.

Avoid Water and Moisture: Suede is highly susceptible to water damage. Avoid wearing your suede shoes in rainy or wet conditions. If they do get wet, allow them to air dry naturally, away from direct heat sources.

How to Style Men’s Trainers

Men's trainers are a versatile wardrobe staple that can effortlessly blend comfort and style. Whether you dress them up or down, there are numerous ways these go-to shoes can be styled.

Cleancut & Casual

For a casual yet put-together look, pair clean, minimalist trainers with slim-fit jeans and a well-fitted t-shirt. Elevate the ensemble with a lightweight jacket for an added  edge.

Athleisure Aesthetic

When aiming for a sports-chic aesthetic, choose chunky statement trainers paired with joggers,  topped with a comfortable hoodie or sweatshirt. Don't be afraid to experiment with colours and patterns to inject personality into your outfit.

Joe’s Top Tip: consider accessorising with a sleek watch or a baseball cap to complete the overall look.

How to Polish Leather Boots

Leather boots are a timeless addition to any wardrobe, exuding style and durability. Properly polishing them not only enhances their appearance but also extends their lifespan.

Here's a 5-step  guide on how to polish men’s leather boots:

  1. Remove Surface Dirt: Use a soft cloth or chamois to wipe away any loose dirt or debris from the surface of the boots. Pay special attention to seams and creases where dirt tends to accumulate.
  2. Brush the Leather: Using a horsehair brush or a soft-bristle brush, gently brush the leather in small, circular motions. This helps raise the nap (the small fibres on the surface) and prepares the leather for conditioning and polishing.
  3. Condition the Leather: Apply a small amount of leather conditioner to a clean cloth. Rub it onto the surface of the boots in a circular motion. This helps moisturise and nourish the leather, preventing it from drying out and cracking.
  4. Apply Shoe Polish: Choose a high-quality shoe polish that matches the colour of your boots. Using a soft cloth, apply a thin, even layer of polish to the entire boot surface. Use small, circular motions to work the polish into the leather.Joe’s Top Tip: Allow the polish to dry for about 15-20 minutes. This gives the leather time to absorb the polish and allows it to create a protective layer.
  5. Buff for Shine: Using a clean section of the cloth or a separate buffing brush, gently buff the boots in small, circular motions. This brings out the shine and smooths out any excess polish.
