At Joe Browns, we believe that a good night's sleep starts with fresh, clean bedding. Your bed linen not only plays a crucial role in your comfort but also in maintaining a healthy sleeping environment.
But while this may be the fundamental purpose of your bed linen, we understand that your choice of bedding is also an extension of your style and personality. So, whether you prefer vibrant, bold patterns or serene, floral prints, we have an array of beautiful bedding designs to suit your unique style.
To help you keep your bedding in top-notch condition, we’ve compiled our top tips for washing and caring for your bed linen.
There’s no real right or wrong to this question as wash cycles will vary from person to person, however, for bedding that smells fresh as a daisy and feels wonderful against your skin, we recommend washing once every two weeks. However, a weekly wash is also fine too!
Hand-washing bedding is easy, provided you have a bathtub or other large container for warm water. Fill your bath with warm water and your chosen detergent and leave your bedding to soak for an hour, stirring every ten minutes. Then, remove the bedding and let the water drain away before rinsing it in fresh, cold water.
Washing your bedding in a washing machine is simple, provided you check the care label first. This will tell you the temperature at which your bedding can be washed and any other key instructions.
If you have gorgeous, colourful Joe Browns bedding, it’s important not to let those magnificent colours run. This means separating your colourful bedding from any white or very light-coloured items to be washed.
Once your bedding is freshly washed, you can’t jump straight to popping it on your bed or stowing it away. To avoid damp smells and mildew, it’s important to dry it properly.
When the weather is nice outdoors, hanging your bed linen on a washing line is a wonderfully environmentally friendly way to dry it. Simply fold it over the line and peg it in place.
If you don’t have any outdoor space or the weather isn’t quite right for drying your bedding outdoors, indoor air drying is also an option. Simply lay them over a flat surface, such as a drying rack, or pop smaller sheets over a radiator and they’ll dry overnight.
It’s the age-old question: do you iron bedding? It’s up to you, but if you’re an ironer through and through, follow our tips for crease-free bedding.
Ironing your sheets while they’re still damp makes it much easier to get rid of those creases.
Opt for a medium temperature. This will be tough on creases but not too tough on your cotton or sateen bedding material.
Fold larger sheets crosswise to work in manageable sections.
Another way to achieve beautifully crease-free bedding is with a handheld steamer. If you don’t have a steamer, ice cubes in your dryer drum can work just as well.
We love switching up bedding and enjoying different styles. But how do you store the bedding you’re not using?
Washing and fully drying your brilliant bedding before will make sure it feels and smells divine when you’re ready to put it on your bed. You should also make sure your storage location is dry to avoid mildew smells.
Do you ever go to pop fresh bedding on and find that you can’t find the pillowcases to match your duvet cover? By putting all bedding from the same set into one of the pillowcases, you can keep all of your wonderful prints together for co-ordinated bedding. Of course, if you’re interested in mixing and matching your bedding, that can create a fun look, too. See our guide to styling Joe Browns bedding for tips.
