People

We know that it is the people that make a business, and it’s key that we look after employees both inside and outside of our company. We work hard to ensure that all our partners share our code of ethics, to protect everyone we work with – directly or indirectly – this is why we are working hard on the traceability of our supply to make sure that these ethics are being mirrored.

We also care deeply about inclusivity – at Joe Browns, everyone is invited to the party, and it is important to us that everyone is given the same opportunities and respect, delivered in a really great place to work.

Code of Ethics

We are committed to providing safe and fair working conditions for the tens of thousands of people who make our products. We therefore operate inline with the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) base codes and via our own code of ethics which states:

We do this through five key principles:

  1. Employment must be freely chosen
  2. Workers have Freedom of Association and the right to collective bargaining
  3. Regular employment should be provided
  4. Working conditions must be safe and hygienic
  5. Child labour is not permissible in any circumstances
  6. Minimum wages must be paid
  7. Working hours should not be excessive
  8. There must be no discrimination
  9. There must be no harsh or inhumane treatment
  10. We require transparency over where our goods are being made
  11. There must be a will to help preserve the environment

Traceability of Supply

We have mapped our supply chain in detail to identify all the factories making our products and have assessed them against our key criteria.

To help in this process, we recently joined SEDEX to improve traceability and help with our risk assessment process.

Inclusivity

Building a workforce of passionate, ambitious, and talented people is very important to us and we invest a lot of time and effort into our company culture and values. We are committed to providing an inclusive and accessible recruitment process, together with reasonable adjustments as required, so that all applicants have the best opportunity to demonstrate that they can do the job. We are also proud to hold the Disability Confident accreditation.

We hold the Investors in People award, and the Zero Hours Justice Gold accreditation and we are committed to creating a great place to work through our Employee Forums and Health and Wellbeing committees.

Local Community and charity work

We pride ourselves at Joe Browns on our work with the local community of Leeds where our company was established and our wide programme of ongoing charitable initiatives in both the UK and overseas.
