The Story Behind Our Festival Jacket

It should come as no surprise when we tell you many of our summer styles were inspired by festival fashion. Festivals are a celebration of individuality and that's what Joe Browns is all about! 

Although you could wear any Joe Browns look to a music festival- and look incredible, might we add- there's one piece that truly embodies that carefree spirit. Our Festival Jacket is a military style, embellished with bold moroccan-inspired embroidery. Take one look at the intricate details and you just know it has an enthralling story to tell.

So, we spoke to the jacket's designer to learn all about it! 

Many of our favourite pieces were imagined by our creator, Simon Brown, and the Festival Jacket is no different!

The idea first sprung to Simon's mind when he was travelling abroad. He was taking a stroll and spotted a man wearing an authentic military jacket. The aged fabric was customised with patches and badges, hinting at the fascinating journey the jacket had been on. 

Simon was so moved by the sight, it brought a tear to his eye.

When he returned to the UK, he began working with our team of designers to create a style that would bring you that same feeling. 

The first step was to design our very own military-style jacket. We wanted it to have that authentic lived-in look but with all the dazzling details that make our clothes uniquely Joe Browns. 

To create the rugged and worn aesthetic, we crafted the jacket from cotton fabric in a khaki colour and gave the material a light stone-wash. Then, we added some quintessential military features, including flap pockets, adjustable cuffs, and wooden buttons.

Once the base was finished, it was time to customise the jacket to perfection! 

Our hunt for inspiration took us all the way to the far east, where we knew we would find some truly remarkable designs.

We were browsing a Moroccan market when we stumbled across a selection of beautiful embroidered panels. Each one was a blend of rich colours and unique patterns. We fit each of the panels together to create that one-of-a-kind, customised look. We completed the back panel with a string of antique moroccan coins.

Finally, we added panels to the cuffs and pockets, then used a similar style of stitching to embellish the lining. 

We don't know about you, but we think the result is simply beautiful! Plus, it's the perfect statement piece to elevate your festival outfits. 

One of the most exciting things about the Festival Jacket is that you can wear it with practically anything! Whether you're rocking your favourite shorts and a pair of wellies (the ideal combo for dancing in muddy fields) or you're embracing your inner Stevie Nicks with a maxi dress and western boots, just slip the jacket on and your outfit will be complete.
