The Story Behind Our Hand-Painted Prints

If you know Joe Browns, you know we like to do things our own way. From bohemian furniture to sicillian kitchenware, each of our homeware collections has a unique story to tell.

With their beautifully detailed designs, it probably comes as no surprise that our reversible bedding sets come with some of the most fascinating tales of them all. A selection of these pieces feature designs that were hand-illustrated by our talented designers. For this article, we went behind the scenes to uncover the stories behind our hand-painted prints.

The first step when creating our bedding designs is finding inspiration.

For example, this season's Sakura collection was influenced by the Japanese cherry blossom tree. The legend behind the tree is all about rebirth and romance, and we wanted the art on our Sakura bedding sets to reflect that. 

Our designers will then search for images to inspire their illustrations, such as herons, cherry blossoms, and scenes of Japanese landscapes.

Once we've imagined what we want our prints to look like, our designers will draw and paint each element individually.

When every image has been painted, they will put all the drawings together, like a jigsaw puzzle, to create the gorgeous prints you'll see on the finished product.

The designs are then printed onto luxurious 200 thread cotton sateen fabric.
