A Guide to Styling a Heritage Jacket

For this year's spring summer womenswear collection, we wanted our jackets to do the talking- and there aren't many styles that speak louder than Heritage. This fashion movement celebrates styles and materials that withstand the test of time. A heritage wardrobe is full of timeless pieces made from high-quality materials, that can be styled over and over again.

One of the most essential pieces of this standout look is the jacket. Flattering, feminine, and- most importantly- versatile, they can be worn in so many wonderful ways. This guide gives you some of our some of our top tips for styling a heritage jacket.

The Jacket

The heritage jacket you choose is vital to your outfit. After all, it's going to be the star of the show!

Look for materials known for their quality and durability. Tweed is a fabric often associated with history, nobility, and intellectualism, making it a popular choice for heritage styling.

A tweed blazer is a classic piece that exudes confidence and individuality- perfect for a statement jacket.

To really stand out, you'll want to choose distinctive patterns such as checks or houndstooth, which evoke a sense of tradition and craftsmanship.

Earthy and understated tones are key to heritage style. Think shades of brown, olive green, and red. For a more feminine twist, don't be afraid to sneak in some pink and purple hues.

Double Checks

Combining different patterns and colours is a bold way of styling a heritage jacket. For example, if you've chosen a check jacket, you could pair it with a matching check skirt for a sophisticated and rustic feel.

It may seem like a fashion risk to wear two checkered pieces, but the key to pulling this style off is to ensure the colours and scale of the patterns complement each other rather than clash.

To bring some balance to your double check outfit, layer your heritage jacket and matching skirt over your favourite white blouse.

Durable Denim

Quality denim is a cornerstone of the heritage style, and it's perfect for pairing with heritage jackets for a look that's both functional and fashionable.

With their rugged and durable feel, denim jeans add a level of casualness to your heritage jacket, which can often feel too formal for the everyday.

Styling a heritage jacket with a pair of denim jeans can create a grounded and timeless outfit.

Refine with a Waistcoat

Dress up your heritage jacket by styling it over a waistcoat- either with a matching pattern or a contrasting colour.

A waistcoat creates a layered, structured look that fits well with the heritage aesthetic. Plus, if you've decided to go smart casual by pairing your waistcoat with casual jeans or trousers, they can balance out your outfit with a touch of sophistication.

If you're going for "countryside elegance", layer your jacket over a tweed waistcoat. If your look is more relaxed or vintage-inspired, you might prefer a check waistcoat, which brings a sense of personality to a formal outfit.

The Classic Blouse

Like the heritage jacket, a classic blouse will never go out of style, this makes it the perfect base for your outfit.

We'd recommend vintage fabrics such as lace and cotton. These vintage materials are perfect for this aesthetic. Add some heritage charm by choosing an embroidered blouse, embellished with broderie anglaise and finished with pintucks.

You want your blouse to complement your jacket, rather than overshadowing it. So, choose neutral colours like white and ivory, or soft pastels for a gentle, nostalgic touch.

Styling a heritage jacket is all about finding durable, high-quality, and traditional pieces, so you can create a statement look that'll never go out of style.
