Joe Browns is all about making people feel good and we take our social responsibility very seriously. We believe that as a business it is our duty to do all we can to support charities, people and communities both at home and abroad. From fund-raising to clothing donations, to simply giving our time to support those in need, we always try to lend a helping hand wherever we can.
St Gemma’s Hospice
St Gemma’s Hospice are a charity we have worked closely with for many years. We regularly donate old stock which is sold in the chain of St Gemma’s Hospice charity shops around Leeds. In 2023, we were absolutely thrilled to learn that our donations have helped raise over £229,000 towards hospice care and continue to support the charity.
Supporting Ukraine
In March 2022, we took action to support the people of Ukraine by providing crucial funding and supplies, ensuring help reached those who needed it most. Our dedicated teams from the head office, warehouse, and stores participated in a 12-hour charity walk around Leeds, raising both awareness and vital funds for the Ukrainian cause. Thanks to their efforts, we raised an incredible £21,338!
Beyond financial support, we donated hundreds of essential items, including bedding, clothing, medical supplies, and food, which were delivered directly to Ukraine.
Additionally, we committed to donating all future profits from the sale of our charity t-shirts to further accelerate our aid, allowing us to send urgent support to Ukraine as quickly as possible.
Supporting our People
We held a bake sale to raise money for a charity that’s very close to Bethany, our Email & CRM Managers heart - the Yorkshire Brain Tumour Charity. This incredible charity provides support to patients and their loved ones, and funds innovative research across Yorkshire to find better treatments, faster diagnosis, and ultimately a cure. Nothing rallies the Joe Browns troops like some sweet treats - everyone got stuck in with some delicious bakes and we raised money for a great cause.
We held a coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support where Mr Barista joined us in his coffee van to provide some well-deserved coffees to staff in our head office. To go with our delicious coffee, we also had a bake sale, where members of the team brought in cakes and bakes which were sold – with all donations going to Macmillan. To make things interesting we held a competition where members of staff could vote for which home bakes were the best – our very own GBBO.
Every year the Joe Browns team get in the festive spirit for Christmas Jumper Day, in aid of Save the Children. Last year we had a day of festivities including prizes for the whackiest Christmas Jumper, a colouring in competition, and a gingerbread man decorating competition.
We hosted our very own #WearItPinkDay to raise money for Breast Cancer Now. We also donated prizes to a raffle of a local church who were holding their own coffee morning and bake sale to raise money for the charity.
Samaritan's Purse is a charity that works with local churches in Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia. They do amazing work helping communities with water sanitisation, disasters & emergencies and sustainable livelihoods.
We joined the Operation Christmas Child campaign, filling piles of shoeboxes with toys and activities that were sent to children in Africa. These children would otherwise have received very little, if anything, at Christmas, so we were able to spread a little festive cheer to a group of very grateful young people.
