“Wearing Joe Browns Has Helped Me Get My Life Back On Track”

Ever feel like some stories in life just need to be told? We did when Tracey got in touch with us on Facebook to thank us for designing clothes that helped her get through what can only be described as a horrendous time in her life. Our aim is to make people feel confident, liberated and free so you can take on anything life throws at you and life really did throw it at Tracey.

In the last year, doctors discovered a large aneurysm on Tracey’s brain, her husband of 30 years left her and her father passed away. We couldn’t imagine what Tracey was going through. “It has been horrendous. Discovering the aneurysm on top of the shock that the husband I had loved since the age of 16 was leaving me was devastating. When my darling dad then passed away we were all heartbroken.” In March, with a 77% chance of the aneurysm rupturing, Tracey, 53, endured a 9 and-a-half hour operation followed by 2 weeks in intensive care to remove it and is now going through a long recovery process. Tracey had a facial spasm which meant she couldn’t smile or laugh for a long time after the operation and her speech was also badly affected.

Tracey told us that at the lowest point in her life she felt determined to stay strong for the sake of her friends and family, especially her two sons Conor, 23 and Elliot, 21. She felt to keep her spirit up on the inside she needed to dress positively and confidently on the outside.

“The Joe Browns clothes I put on after the operation really did perk me up. I felt happy in them and ready to get back on track. Marriage breakdown worries, financial worries, ill and ageing parent worries; I managed to keep a brave and cheerful face on to try to lessen other people’s concern by wearing cheerful clothes.”

Tracey’s story really touched us at Joe Browns HQ and we wanted to thank her for sharing it with us by giving her an afternoon of pampering. We arranged for Tracey to come up from her home in Rugby to Joe’s offices in Leeds for a spot of lunch, tour of HQ, a personal styling session with hair and make-up by a professional artist and some pictures taken in our studio by our photographer.
