Celebrate The Individual: Meet Kevin
This season we’re celebrating all things unique – you, us and the true individuals we meet along the way.
As they say, ‘it takes all sorts to make a world’ so to mix things up this season, we’ve pulled out all the amazing guys and girls that are normally behind the camera – to be in front of it!
It’s our quirks, flaws and moments of madness that help make us who we are, so let’s remind ourselves what they are and celebrate them!
This week, we’d like to introduce you to our photographer Kev…
What’s your occupation?
Photographer and collector
Which is your favourite style from Joe Browns?
Laid back Hawaii shirts and custom biker jackets.
Kev is wearing the Sensational Skinny Jeans £29.95 / Ultimate Henley £24.95 / Denim Utility Shirt £39.95 / Tan Leather Biker Jacket £199.00.
Why do you like Joe Browns?
I love the whole ethos of Joe Browns. They manage to produce a brand that has a completely different look and try to get everyone involved in that feel good factor – feeling good about the way you look and live your life. The clothes have a real quality about them too. The men’s range of leather Biker Jackets, in particular, are so cool – I’ve got a few of them, the more you wear them, the better they look.
What makes an individual?
Maintaining a unique perspective on life. Taking the things you face in your stride and being good to the people you meet along the way.
How important is it to be yourself?
I always try to be myself, it’s way too easy to get hung up with how other people see you, but really, it doesn’t matter what people think of you, as long as you’re happy with how you feel about yourself, that’s the most important thing.
What’s your idea of a good time?
Kicking back with a rum and coke (light) in the sunshine.
How did you find being in front of the camera?
It was a real hoot. Rich, the Art Director and I have been shooting together for a long time. I often have to show models the sort of pose and look we’re after, so it was a good laugh. He takes a pretty mean shot does Rich, so maybe I should keep the camera away from him eh!
Fancy any future modelling?
Haha, if it’s on a surf beach in California – I’m your man.
What was the best bit of the shoot or do you have any behind the scenes secrets?
It’s always a real pleasure shooting for Joe Browns. The days are totally full on and it’s a proper adventure. It’s a real team effort, we use great models, stylists, make-up artists and a great creative team from JB’s, so it’s like a bunch of pals, all working to get the best shots we can. I think shows in the quality and freshness of the images we produce. One of the best parts of the shoot – is looking at the shots at the end of the day and knowing you’ve got some amazing images – job done.
Which individual inspires you the most?
I think that’s a difficult question. There are so many people and things which have inspired me through my life. It’s a never-ending thing, there’s inspiration everywhere you look, every day. What got me into Photography in the late 70s was the book “Trouble and Strife” by David Bailey. I read that and thought, yes please! So Mr. Bailey, I owe all this to you!
When was the last time you did something for the first time and what was it?
The first time? I guess it was a year ago when I jumped on a 1963 classic Royal Enfield 350 Bullet and went vintage motorbike racing at the Croft Racing Circuit. It was a totally exciting day, scary, thrilling, just a joy to be involved with all those classic bikes. I came last haha, but didn’t matter at all. There’s something about the smell of Classic Bikes which takes me back to when my parents had a Matchless motorbike and sidecar, and we’d go all over the place in it. Happy days.
Thanks Kev – it was a pleasure!
Make sure you keep checking the blog this season as we’ll have plenty more interviews with our real models coming up.
