Happy World Book Day! For the last few weeks there’s been conversation sparked around the hottest reads, the genres to try and book swap discussions.

Because we love our blog readers, we’ve lined up a few of our top reads from the last year, directly from the Joe Browns family bookworms. Take a look and find your next fiction favourite!

From Lizzy Hall, Senior Marketing Executive

Lizzy read her favourite book of the year in sunny Lanzarote! Catching some rays with a good book – is there any better way?

“I picked this book up at the airport on the way to our summer photoshoot location a few weeks ago and I have to say what a brilliant find it was!

It tells the story of Lily Bloom and her new love interest, as well as looking back at her difficult past life, later to find her past comes into her present.

If you enjoy a romance novel that’s easy to read but still has a warmth and meaningful story line, then I’d really recommend – it had me hooked!”

From Christopher Gray, our Accountant...

His top books of the year is a list longer than we have hours in the day!

“Jimmy Carr – Before and Laughter

All on And Middleton’s books

All of Jason Fox’s books

All of Ollie Ollerton’s books

Mark Billingham – The Hard Way

Tyson Fury – Behind The Mask

All of these books are about mental resilience and being the best version of yourself. Being proud of who you are, and what you can do. Though, looking back – I sense there’s been a theme for the last 18 months...”

From Briony Rose, in Customer Care

Two books have made her list!

“First up its Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackburn

Noughts & Crosses is a war and romance story in a world with a socio-economic flip; where black and white cultures and societal status are swapped. Meanwhile you follow a rebellion fighting for equality and a Romeo & Juliet-esque story between two people which builds and unfolds in the middle of it all.

Secondly, The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris is a book that brought me to tears.

It doesn’t need a description – it had to be read. It’s more than just moving. It’s honest, insightful and captivating.”

From Kim Ho, Web Designer

Her top read of the year has actually been written by her own partner!

“Dyspheria is, always was, and always will be, the greatest threat to humanity.’

Liberty Farm (LF) is a dystopian novel of a future Earth that has been saved by the ‘Writer’ after a mass outbreak of the virus, dyspheria, ended what was left of human civilisation…

LF is a gripping story, full of lucid dreams and creatively futuristic concepts. A great read for sci-fi lovers - you won’t be able to put the book down!”

From Rachel Vickers, Head of Quality Control

Our very own non-fiction queen is here with her best reads.

A top choice from me is Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus by John Gray.

It’s a non-fiction book that mulls over the metaphorical idea that men and women are from different planets, and the societal cultures and differences between the two. Each gender is acclaimed to its own ‘planet’s’ society and customs, but not used to the other. It’s a fantastic read!

Another essential is How to Stop Worrying and Start Living by Dale Carnegie.

It’s a self-help classic that gives small and simple steps to follow to break the cycle of worry people often find themselves in. Worry is actually a leading cause of physical illness. Everyone worries sometimes, so everyone should read this book.

From Fiona Brown, Head of Ecommerce

As a break away from technology and numbers, Fiona likes nothing more than to curl up with a good feel-good fictional novel.

“I recently fell in love with two new books from Ruth Jones, the co-writer and star of the hit TV show Gavin & Stacey. The novels ‘Never Greener’ and ‘Us Three’ were fun, heart-warming, and really honest in the way they approached day-to-day struggles that we might all encounter. As you’d expect from such an accomplished writer, the books are easy to read and keep you engrossed until the very end, and will be an essential read on your summer hols...

I’ve heard on the grapevine that there will be a third book along soon, so I'll be front of the queue to get it!
